New Beginnings

After four years I’m leaving NewsChannel 5.

WTVF had been on my radar since I started my career. I boldly told the former News Director that I wanted him to hire me back in 2007. Then I began my “campaign” of sorts to prove why I should get the job. I knew if I just could just get into the newsroom, I had no choice but to improve. I sent numerous resume tapes, so many that the current News Director, Sandy Boonstra recognized me at a journalism conference in 2008. We stayed in touch, until the time was right in June 2011 and I came on board.

This is where I found my voice, developed my confidence and created a niche. You, the viewers, were patient with my mistakes while still holding me accountable. You cheered me on. You invited me into your homes. You trusted me with your best moments and biggest tragedies. You even gave me opportunities to be a part of your special events. Every day I never took it for granted!

A really interesting and unexpected thing happened along the way. I checked off a majority of my goals. So I had to make new ones. But unlike before my focus wasn’t just on my career but my entire life. In the last decade I’ve moved between five states. My family has endured the brunt of each sacrifice while providing unwavering support. I knew with the next move that had to change.

I’ve accepted a reporting position at NBC 10 in Philadelphia. I’m looking forward to joining another strong team and taking my skills to a new level. I’m also excited about being only 2.5 hours away from home.

I will never forget my time here in Middle Tennessee. NewsChannel 5 is the news leader for a reason! I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the best journalists in the ENTIRE country. The quality of the product only pales when compared to the quality of the people. At NewsChannel 5 the team includes everyone from the custodians to the General Manager. Not every station in this market can say that. I’ve celebrated births, danced at weddings, provided support through illness and have also mourned deaths together with my fellow colleagues. I’ve never laughed so much and so loudly at work! The inside jokes are both ridiculous and endless. A hug is never far away. No workplace is perfect, but I know this one was pretty good!

So my last request is that you continue to support “The Big Nickel” as we like to call it. Tell your friends and tell your friends, friends!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Because of your love, support, encouragement and faith in me, I’m leaving far better (both personally and professionally) than the person who first arrived!

Until next time,

    Congratulations Aundrea!
I am so happy for you… but sad at the same time! I can’t think of a nicer, sweeter more sincere person than you. I have loved getting to know you these last 4 years. I sure will miss those warm hugs you would give me every time you saw me! But I understand the desire to be closer to family. I’ve got family in Philly, so if you run across some Colemans ask them if they know me – they’ll welcome you to the city in a big way. Stay in touch! Best always!
